چکیده

Direct, on-line mass spectrometric analyses were performed on volatiles released from microscopic fluid inclusions in quartz, feldspar, and tourmaline from the miarolitic Belo Horizonte #1 pegmatite in the San Jacinto district, and Himalaya pegmatite dike system in the Mesa Grande district of southern California. These analyses are the first inclusion volatile studies to indicate the presence of significant and variable concentrations of B compounds in pegmatite formation fluids. Boron appears as boric acid B ( OH)7, which is found at levels ranging from less than detection limit ( < 10 -’ mole fraction) to as high as 10m4 mole fraction. High B concentrations are seen in inclusion fluids from miarolite filling quartz, cleavelandite variety albite feldspar, and schorl tourmaline from the Belo Horizonte #l, while negligible amounts appear in late-stage green/pink-zoned gem elbaite tourmalines from that mine. Fluid inclusions in quartz, as well as grey and pink tourmaline from the miarolites in the Himalaya mine, have undetectable levels of B compounds. In addition to confirming the presence of very high boric acid concentrations in some pegmatite forming solutions, observations of large variations in abundance may urovide new constraints on fluid chemical evolution trends during the genesis of these regionally and baragenetically complex gem deposits.

Magmatic and Metamorphic Fluids in Pegmatite Development: Evidence from Borujerd Complex, Iran

The Borujerd complex of western Iran is composed of intrusions and their surrounding contact aureole, with, pegmatites and quartz veins. Pegmatites differ in mineralogy, origin and age, and two groups can be distinguished. The Older Pegmatites (about 120 Ma age) intruded contact metamorphic rocks from the early magmatic stage, while the Younger pegmatites (52-70 Ma age) formed during the late m...

THE OCCURRENCE AND ORIGIN OF ZABUYELITE (Li2CO3) IN SPODUMENE-HOSTED FLUID INCLUSIONS: IMPLICATIONS FOR THE INTERNAL EVOLUTION OF RARE-ELEMENT GRANITIC PEGMATITES

Solid – liquid – vapor fluid inclusions in spodumene in rare-element granitic pegmatites commonly contain one or more highbirefringence minerals. Optical examination and laser Raman spectroscopic analyses of over 500 crystal-rich fluid inclusions in spodumene from Bikita and Kamativi, Zimbabwe, and Bernic Lake (Tanco), Manitoba, indicate that the high-birefringence phase is zabuyelite (Li2CO3)....

Mass spectrometric analysis of volatiles in fluid inclusions: aliquot calibration valve to simulate inclusion rupture

Analysis of nanoto picomole quantities of gas released from microscopic fluid inclusions in minerals can be critical in determining details of the physical and chemical conditions under which mineral deposits formed. Such analyses can routinely be performed using quadrupole mass spectrometry of volatiles released by inclusion decrepitation as minerals are heated or crushed. However, steady-stat...

The Lapeh-Zanak copper deposit is located about 15 km east of Tehran, in the southern part of the Central Alborz Zone. The rock units exposed in this area include a sequence of volcanic and pyroclastic rocks (basalt, andesite, trachy-andesite and dacitic and vitric tuff) belonging to the Fajan Formation with the Paleocene-Lower Eocene age, which are cut by subvolcanic igneous masses with a comp...
